Bear River Memorial Community
The Tribe
has been working with public and private interests to reacquire
the Bear River Massacre Site. Over the last two years, the
Tribe has acquired 33 acres at the heart of the Massacre
Site, and has received pledges from congressional and other
sponsors for a multimillion dollar endowment to create a
monument, visitors center and memorial park. In addition
to the Massacre Site Complex, the Tribe has been developing
a community housing project complemented by geothermal and
biodiesel energy
projects. This unique Idaho community, located
in the heart of the Tribe’s ancestral homeland in
the Cache Valley, is designed to reconcile historical neighbors.
Washakie Planned Community
The Tribe
is expanding its current trust land in Washakie, Utah, to
include neighboring areas along the Utah/Idaho border. The
mixed use development will include housing, education and
medical facilities, a business park with offices, and light
manufacturing in a planned community.
